David T. Carter in studio and playlist

Nope, it’s not been two weeks already. We filled in for Shorty so she could take care of some business this week and were lucky to have David T. Carter in the studio with Rick Miller, one of his bandmates. David is a gifted singer-songwriter originally hailing from Australia, but makes his home in the Bay Area now. He and Rick brought their guitars into the studio and played some songs from his new album as well as songs from his other project the Trailer Park Rangers. In addition, we played some music from David’s wide-ranging list of musical influences – Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Neal Young, Tammy Wynette… We weren’t able to play his other influences like 10CC, Cher, Dean Martin… David is having his Marin CD release party tonight at Rancho Nicasio at 8:30.

In addition to David’s music, we also played a lot of self-released music by Bakersfield area musicians we have met or who contacted us through some of the excitement we have generated about the Bakersfield Sound. Penny Marie is a Bakersfield artist currently living in Nashville, playing gigs almost nightly. We played one of her songs and also called in to say thanks – our pleasure, Penny. Olen Taylor from a Bakersfield band, The Witchitas, contacted us and sent up a CD with songs they recorded between 1994 – 2003. A great collection of songs that we will sure to play on a regular basis. Another Bakersfield area artist is David Howe who sent us his CD A Face For Radio. Well, David also has a voice for radio and should be on more radio stations.  We also premiered Dr. BLT’s new song Halloween with Jim Beam – sounds like a plan!

Here’s some good youtube clips and the playlist.

Thursday the 22nd – David T. Carter in studio – new releases!

This Thursday Mike and I will be in the studio at KWMR for Bakersfield and Beyond. We are departing from our normal schedule slightly while swapping with our friend Shorty from Shorty’s Bunkhouse. We will be back on November 12th after two weeks off. But this week David T. Carter will be in the studio with us, and his guitar to talk about his music and play some tunes. We have a brand new release recorded especially for Bakersfield and Beyond in the backyard tree house  by my pal David Goldberg and his band The Floating Coats. The song is called Stoned Millionaire. Dr. BLT has a new hit, just recorded and being released early for Halloween – it is called Halloween with Jim Beam. I’m sure that we will play some more Gary Stewart this week since I can’t get enough of his haunting voice and some Wichita’s – they sent us their CD recently and Mike has been previewing it. Maybe spin some vinyl as well. So many songs, just not enough time. Any requests?
