Show #247 – Beer Cans!

In 1935 the first beer in a can was sold in a trial. It sold like hotcakes, so they went into full production mode. In honor of this historical event, we took to the airwaves with songs of the brew for which the oldest recipe exists: beer.

Pop a top!

Generally like live videos of the person singing, but this song is just too damn good to not have in the blog.

And this is about the worst video ever, just imagine that you have already popped a few tops!

Show # 246 – Gushers and Conspiracies

On the 10th of January in 1901 the first oil well gusher in Texas kicked off the American Oil Industry. So why not celebrate it in song. We found some good songs about oil, and a few about gasoline.

Nine years ago on January 8th, Mike was invited to KWMR for the first time, to bring some Elvis tracks to play on a show when Amanda was subbing. It was Elvis Presley’s birthday, which is shared by another music legend, David Bowie. So Bowie and Elvis were played, and then Ruby Dee and the Snakehandlers. And the rest is history.

The 10th of January is also the anniversary of David Bowie’s death. The last part of the show, dives deeper into Elvis’ unreleased Black Star track, later released as Flaming Star, and then Bowie’s last album, also titled Black Star. You decide.
