Show #195 – So Long 2016, Hello 2017!

With the help of our buddy Robert Price from Bakersfield, we ended 2016 with our 195th show. Robert is the Editor of the Bakersfield Californian newspaper and the author of “The Bakersfield Sound, How a Generation of Displaced Okies Revolutionized Music.” We are tickled since Robert found it in his heart to include “Bakersfield and Beyond” in this publication. It is in its third printing and has been picked up by Heyday Press for this printing. For a self-published book, it has done incredibly well.

It was a fun evening of song and banter on KWMR. Happy New Year from Amanda and Mike! And remember, “take it easy.”

Show #194 – How High’s The Water Mama

While we didn’t play Johnny Cash’s “How High’s The Water Mama,” it wasn’t because we weren’t thinking it.  We didn’t play it out of sensitivity to all the folks in the listenershed who might be battling their own war against the rising waters.  The watershed of Marin County and West Marin has a lot of terrain that feeds many small streams, which in turn feed the many creeks.  One of the crucial roles of KWMR is getting information out to the listeners about weather and road conditions.  We had a very rainy day and as the day went on, the road closure announcements increased with regards to flooded, impassable roads.  In fact, if KWMR was not broadcasting, it is quite likely that no one would know about closed roads to choose an alternate route.  KWMR’s role in the community is to get the information out to keep people safe.  And that was what a big portion of our show tonight went to – announcing the multiple road closures between sets of kickass music.  KWMR really is the gem of the community.

The archive of the show can be listened to at this link until Dec. 29, 2016:  http://kwmr.org/broadcasts/6437
