Show #203 – 4/20

Mike asked me two times if we had a theme for the show this week. I’m sure I shrugged, since I have been really busy, my mom is visiting and we have a big KWMR event this weekend, not having a theme is not a big deal. I woke up on 4/20 to a barrageĀ information pushing the day recognizing marijuana. The story is that students would gather at 4:20pm at San Rafael High School to imbibe.

Neither host of Bakersfield and Beyond are big smokers, but the love of a good song can be a big high. Turns out there are a lot of damn good songs that are about, reference, celebrate, or warn about the dangers of weed. So, the playlist included many, but not all, nope not by a long shot. We did kick things off with Merle Haggard and then closed the show with Willie and Merle. It was more of a “beyond” show, and we hope you enjoyed it.

Show #202 – April 6 is Merle Haggard Day

Well, if it isn’t, it should be. Here is a legend who was both born, and passed away, on the same day. Such an iconic voice, and songs from the heart, soul and brain.

It was another fun show in the studio and the power did not go out, (although the lights flickered) and a major wind advisory was warning of gusts up to 60mph.

Some great tunes, weather and surf advisories and plenty of calls into the studio to talk of “dancing around the house,” “branches falling into the roadways,” “power out,” or “just to say hi.”

We lost Merle last year, and a host of other other folks. Thanks for listening, checking out the archive and the blog.
