Show #238 – Birthdays

Often after we have completed a Bakersfield and Beyond show, we realize that another artist that we frequently play has had a birthday. Opportunity lost to celebrate musical icons in song. No more. We made a list, checked it twice, and found a typo…shocker. After we turn Mary Stuart into Marty Stuart, we should be good to go!

August birthdays include Rose Maddox, Buck Owens, Maria McKee, Elvis Costello and Don Rich. Not surprisingly there were some good crossovers and collaborations, even within this small group.

You can listen to the archive HERE for 14 days. Playlist is below!

Show #237 – KWMR Block Party

Sunday is going to be a fun time over at Love Field in Point Reyes Station. The recipe includes Renee and Irish Greg with their Pop Up Podcast project, Red Meat, The Haggards, DJ Barbarella. Green grass, blue skies, a parachute, and hopefully YOU.

Robert Price will be there to sign his book about the Bakersfield Sound. If you don’t like country music, you should definitely come. This event will likely cure you. Red Meat has been playing tunes for 25 years together, and practice makes darn near perfect. The Haggards never disappoint. Trust us. DJ Barbarella weaves a musical connection between sets.

David Cook is going to make some yummy vittles for us to nosh on, Straus has donated ice cream and there will be 21st Amendment brewskies, wine from Whetstone Wine Cellars. Something for everyone.

While you need no ticket, you should definitely hit the ATM before you head to the show, since KWMR has some of their world famous raffle prize baskets, and you don’t want to not support local radio by eating, drinking and enjoying the hoedown!

Oh, when is it? Sunday, August 12th from 1-5 pm. Love Field in Point Reyes Station. Under the Parachute. No dogs please.

Red Meat… In France!

The Haggards…In Bolinas
