Amanda’s back in the studio + playlist for 5-27

After a one show hiatus, which is one month away from the studio, Amanda was back in the studio to save Mike from having to do more verbalizing.  As usual it was a fun show.  We started things off with a set of Ferlin Husky, who was recently inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.  We followed up with sets of Red Meat (playing Memorial Day at the El Rio details here) and Dave Gleason, who has a brand new CD, Turn and Fade, being released on June 15.  Luckily, we have an advanced copy of the CD and it was our honor to play a track from it.

After playing those sets, we decided to keep with the theme and play more sets.  Check out the playlist down below and if you listened, hope you enjoyed the show and if you didn’t, well, there ain’t nothing better to do on a Thursday night or we wouldn’t be in the studio playing these great songs!

May 13 playlist and update

Amanda was missed during last night’s show.  She did, however, give me a few requests and then I sprinkled a little Bakersfield and a little Beyond.  Talked to Dr. BLT, aka Dr. Bruce L. Thiesen, who introduced his song Washed Out In Nashville Tonight, a song about the troubles Nashville has been going through as of late with the flood.  Recording artist, transplanted to Nashville from Bakersfield, had contacted Bruce about the floods and in Dr. BLT’s inimitable style, penned a new tune about the floods.  So, here’s the playlist with some youtube clips to help make your day go a little faster.  Happy Friday and thanks for listening.

On this week in 1975, Gary Stewart’s She’s Actin’ Single (I’m Drinkin’ Doubles), became his only #1 hit on Billboard.

“Let us walk through this barren desert in search of truth and some pointy boots and maybe a few snack crackers.”

I like this clip of Wanda Jackson.  She starts talking all sweet and then rips into Hard Headed Woman.  Sweet with a lot of spice.
