Show #254 – Wynn, Waylon, and Podcasts

We celebrated the birthdays of Wynn Stewart (June 7) and Waylon Jennings (June 15) a bit early.  Heck, we might celebrate their birthdays next show and the show after that and the show…  They’re that good and we love playing their music.

We also wove a couple of podcasts that got on our radars a while back, but recently one of us dove deep down those rabbit holes.  If you haven’t listened to “Cocaine & Rhinestones” by Tyler Mahan Coe or “Walking The Floor” by Chris Shiflett,   you need to.  Now.  “Walking The Floor” is some good, easy listening to fun interviews with some of our friends like Dave Alvin and John Doe.  “Cocaine & Rhinestones” is an in depth, thoroughly researched, podcast about the history of country music.  Instead of covering the history in broad strokes, it picks a specific topic and does a double back-flip into the deep end.  Check them out.  Right after you listen to the archive of this week’s show.  It’s available to stream for the next 2 weeks here:

Show #253 – Birth and Death

Well, we all are born, and then at some point, we all die. C’est la vie.

We found a fun graphic that depicted (without percentages mind you, how country music is that?) ways that people die in country music songs.

Causes of death

So we ran with it, after playing some brand new releases that are “fresh” at KWMR. Some good honky tonk coming in these days, check it out!

And then it was time to celebrate some birthdays. Yep, Hank Snow, Country Dick Montana, and Gary Stewart. Well, I for one want to party with that trio. We hope you enjoy the show!

Playlist, last song first.
