“We like punk rock and country.”

Last week an interview we did with “Bakersfield Life” came out on line and soon after we got a few messages from Bakersfield folks.  One from Jerry D. Hobbs came with the offer of a CD of his music.  Thanks, Jerry.  We got it and played a track tonight.  We dug it.  We also got a message here on the blog that said simply “Slim the Drifter lived here in Bakersfield. He lived hard and fast, but he had a big heart.”  This was followed by an mp3 of his cover of “Streets of Bakersfield.”  In one of the youtube clips below, Slim the Drifter says “we like punk rock and country.”  That could be summed up in many ways.  Bakersfield country is the punk rock to Nashville’s countrypolitan.  Thanks for turning us on to Slim the Drifter, his music, and his life that ended too young.

And it was Johnny Cash’s birthday yesterday.  Happy birthday, John R. Cash.

Day Before Valentine’s Day

Day before Valentine’s Day and nary a love song in the bunch.  But then aren’t all country songs love songs – I love my dog, I love my truck, I love my country.  Yep.  We started off with a few songs about rain since we finally had ourselves a gully washer that broke a very long dry spell.  In 3 days we had more rain than all of last year.  We’re feeling mighty refreshed and hope we played some fresh songs for y’all.

And a big happy birthday to J.P. Harris of J.P. Harris & The Tough Choices today!
