Show #227 – Gifted CDs From Friends

Fellow KWMR Programmer Liberacha gave us a bunch of awesome CDs. It’s one thing to get CDs from someone, and another to get them from Liberacha! We decided our theme for this week would be to play the whole show, minus the opening song by Tim Hus, using the CDs. In fact, one of the CDs was Ruby Dee and the Snakehandlers “North of Bakersfield,” which has our closing song on it. In fact, that CD was the the whole reason we even do this show!

So, the playlist below is just a sampling of the wealth of tunes that have been added to the Bakersfield and Beyond quiver of music! Thank you Liberacha!

KWMR, our home base radio station in Point Reyes Station, is having a Pledge Drive RIGHT NOW (March 23- April 1). We don’t have a show during the drive, but if you enjoy what we do, you need to know we would not likely be doing this if it weren’t for KWMR. So please drop a donation to the station in appreciation. Hey, a rhyme!

Show #226 – International Women’s Day

March 8th is International Women’s Day There is an International Men’s Day, too – November 19th is the day. As our show is on Thursday (every other, opposite “Shorty’s Bunkhouse”) and this Thursday was International Women’s Day, a theme emerged. I mean a theme emerged at 6:28pm for a 6:30pm show start time. We began to pull CDs from our collection where women were the primary performer. We then pulled more CDs from the KWMR library, and even took one request.

With the exception of not including Buck Owens (sort of a rule for each show), we did include Merle Haggard singing with Bonnie Owens, and Dave Alvin with his Guilty Women, the the Knitters made the list, featuring Exene Cervenka, along with John Doe. We always start things off with Tim Hus.

We hope you enjoyed the show. Here is a link to the archive, which will be active for 14 days.  If you missed it, you can still enjoy it. Playlist is below.

Have a damned nice day!
