Playlist for February 18, 2010

Another super fun show in the bag.  That hour and fifty minutes goes by way too fast.  We played a couple of mini-sets.  One had a little cajun feel with Gilbeau & Parsons’ “Sweet Sugar Blues,” Wynn Stewart’s “Sha-Marie,” and “Valse de Balfa” from Aux Cajunals who is playing at the Dance Palace here in town on March 5.

The other set of music we played featured Homer Joy.  We interviewed Homer back last year.  Homer wrote the “Streets of Bakersfield” that Dwight Yoakam and Buck Owens turned into a big hit.  Homer had a heart transplant several years ago and it seems it’s not working like it should.  Homer’s been at the UCLA Medical Center undergoing tests to see what they can do to get him back on his feet.  Thoughts and prayers go out to Homer.

With the passing of Doug Fiegler, the lead singer of The Knack and the songwriter of one biggest hits of the New Wave explosion of the late ’70s, we had to play My Sharona.  It’s still a great song to crank and recall 1979.

Thanks all for listening and here are a couple clips for your enjoyment.

Gotta love skinny ties.  Check out this one for the original video (embedding is disabled so you’ll have to view it at this link:  My Sharona.

Tim Weed in the studio, playlist from 2/4/2010

Local musician, Tim Weed with Debbie Daly, came into the studio for some live music.  Tim’s recent music is more acoustic – banjo and mandolin, but last night he plugged in his Strat and got down to some fun guitar pickin’.  Tim grew up in SoCal and played every chance he could and in many styles.  The story of how a SoCal surfer/musician came to know the Point Reyes area was neat.  On a family vacation many years ago (1976?), he and his family stopped at the Inverness Store where he bought a book on the banjo and the rest, as one might say, is history.  Thanks again for hanging out with Amanda and I for and spell and playing music, Tim.

Check out more info about Tim on his myspace page and on this youtube clip:

After Tim and Debbie left, we got into some Wynn Stewart with his “It’s Such a Pretty World Today,” which was one of the top songs played on the jukebox at the old Silver Dollar Saloon in Point Reyes Station.  The Silver Dollar is now the Station House, which no longer has a jukebox, but has great live music throughout the year.
