Show #186 – We Have The Knack

We have the knack.  The knack for really mixing it up and throwing folks for a loop.  And I only mention that because we played The Knack’s My Sharona tonight because it reached the #1 position on this day in 1979 and it wasn’t until many weeks later that a band named Led Zeppelin knocked them off the #1 pedestal.  Yeah, The Knack made some darn good pop/rock tunes.

We also played some new music from some folks out of Bakersfield.  Lonely Avenue is a new band out of B-Town who recorded in our pal Brian Boozer’s Aum Studios.  Brian also played drums on the album.  It’s a good album.  A damn good album.  Give it a listen.

And we played a couple of tracks from John Doe/X because John will join us in the studio on our next show September 8.  Just saying you might want to clear your calendar.

Show #185 – Buck Owens

Alvis Edgar Owen went up to his ma and pa when he was 3 or 4 years old and announce his name was now Buck – just like the name of the donkey on the family farm.  This Buck went on to much bigger things in life than that donkey could have managed, and became known world-wide for the hard driving, tear it up blend of country music that came out of Bakersfield, CA.  Tomorrow, August 12 would have been Buck’s 87th birthday and we celebrated with a mix of Buck songs and far reaching influences and covers.  Hope you could listen.
