Bakersfield Music

We start off the show with Canadian Tim Hus’ song, “Bakersfield Music.”  In it, he references Buck Owens and Merle Haggard.  In particular, he references songs of Buck and Merle.  Tonight’s first half hour was dedicated to some of the songs that are referenced in “Bakersfield Music.”

Billy Mize

As Joe Sauders’ film “Billy Mize And The Bakersfield Sound” documentary gets closer to being finished and released, we thought we would try to catch up with Joe and find out how the production is going.  Seems the film may be finished for a fall release with a premiere perhaps in Bakersfield.  Joe was excited about the project and the upcoming June 15 fund raiser in Delano, CA.  There are some great raffle prizes that one could win by following the directions on the “Billy Mize & The Bakersfield Sound” fundraiser event web page.

In 1953, Billy Mize, along with Bill Woods, and Herb Henson put out “The Cousin Herb Trading Post Show” from a Bakersfield TV station whose signal could reach all the way in to Los Angeles.  It was here that acts such as locals Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Tommy Collins as well as national recording stars, Hank Williams and Patsy Cline, were broadcast into living rooms across the Southland.
