One of Dave Alvin’s Guilty Women, Amy Farris, passed away September 26 at her home in Los Angeles. Her record label, Yep Roc, posted the info on their website. There is a lot of speculation about how she died on the internet. Rather than focus on that, I prefer to focus on how she lived and the music legacy she left behind. I’ll have plenty of her music to play tomorrow evening. RIP Amy Farris. She was only 40 years old.
Dave Alvin had this to report from his Facebook page: “Mourning the loss of my friend and musical compatriot, Amy Farris. The words sad and sorrowful are too weak to express what I’m feeling. Rest in Peace, Amy.”
While I will be spinning tunes solo on Thursday, Amanda will be enjoying the Merle Haggard show down in Santa Barbara. She says she’s going to call in, but I think Bakersfield & Beyond’s Girl Haggard may be a little too busy. Merle’s show is scheduled to begin at 8:00 so I’m sure we’ll hear from her prior to that so she can give us an update from the mosh pit.
With this coming show being on the eve of San Francisco’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival, I’ll be playing music from artists who will be appearing during the three days of incredible music down at Golden Gate Park. Some of the great artists who will be performing at Hardly Strictly Blue Grass are Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women, Neko Case, The Knitters… And in case you can’t get to HSB, you can catch Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women at McNear’s Mystic Theater in Petaluma on Friday night and John Doe & The Sadies will be playing on Sunday at Annie’s Social Club at 8 p.m. Way too much great live music this weekend! You’ll be able to get your fix of the great music a day early during Bakersfield & Beyond! Tune in.
