Show #211 – Glen Campbell and Dogs

When we were kids, we always liked Glen Campbell songs. They were hits, and his career was amazing. Glen Campbell was one of the most successful musicians in the biz, selling over 45 million albums, recording with The Champs and the Beach Boys, a legendary member of The Wrecking Crew, some of the most engaged session musicians that ever recorded music. Glen was also golfing buddies and a close friend to Alice Cooper, both having kicked bad cocaine habits and cleaned up their lives, while staying in the business. Glen Campbell had a strong Christian faith and a loving, close family. He passed away from Alzheimer’s disease, died on Tuesday, August 8 in Nashville. He was 81.

The first 30 minutes of Bakersfield and Beyond was dedicated to Glen Campbell and his musical legacy. Even prior to the passing of Campbell, this show was set to be a tribute. Last week, Robert Price, author of “The Bakersfield Sound: How a Generation of Displaced Okies Revolutionized American Music” lost his longtime canine companion, Sir Edgar. The rest of the show wandered into the “beyond” realm and literally “went to the dogs.” We spoke with Robert at 8pm to discuss Glen Campbell’s connection to Bakersfield and how important dogs are in our lives.
