Show #201 – Pledge Drive

Community radio stations are under fire from the proposed federal budget.  On the chopping block is the CPB (the Corporation for Public Broadcasting).  KWMR gets 25% of it’s annual funding from the CPB.  What would happen if the station lost that funding?  Would it get shut down?  Probably not, but the station would be run on fumes.  The quality of the station’s ability to keep equipment running might suffer.  It would continue, but not at the same level we all come to appreciate.

However, stations is really rural areas that rely on upwards of 75% of their annual budget from CPB funds might have to close.  Turn off the signal.  That would be a real shame because for some of those communities, that’s their only source of news and information.

So, this last show was our pledge drive show.  Twice a year, we take to the airwaves to try to raise money for the station.  We did pretty good and we’ll keep at it so we can continue to offer this show to the listening public.   Thanks for listening.
