Show #194 – How High’s The Water Mama

While we didn’t play Johnny Cash’s “How High’s The Water Mama,” it wasn’t because we weren’t thinking it.  We didn’t play it out of sensitivity to all the folks in the listenershed who might be battling their own war against the rising waters.  The watershed of Marin County and West Marin has a lot of terrain that feeds many small streams, which in turn feed the many creeks.  One of the crucial roles of KWMR is getting information out to the listeners about weather and road conditions.  We had a very rainy day and as the day went on, the road closure announcements increased with regards to flooded, impassable roads.  In fact, if KWMR was not broadcasting, it is quite likely that no one would know about closed roads to choose an alternate route.  KWMR’s role in the community is to get the information out to keep people safe.  And that was what a big portion of our show tonight went to – announcing the multiple road closures between sets of kickass music.  KWMR really is the gem of the community.
