Dan Blocker, Dan Blocker

Those are the lyrics to Gurf Morlix‘s song Dan Blocker.  Dan Blocker is also the actor who played “Hoss” on the Bonanza.  Bonanza, hmm, see where I’m going with this?  The theme song from Bonanza is also one of the most recognizable theme songs in existence.  It was written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans and was orchestrated by David Rose.  And then it was covered by a whole host of folks including several we played tonight such as Johnny Cash, Bad Manners doing a ska version, and Ralf Paulsen covering it in German.

Between the various versions on Bonanza, we also played a little Bakersfield & Beyond and gave out tickets to see Kelly Willis & Bruce Robison perform at the Sebastopol Community Center next Friday April 19.  Super fun show and if you listened live, thanks for listening.

And saving the best for last, Happy Birthday Merle Haggard, born on April 6, 1937, celebrating #76.

I’m shaking my head here. I found out about this from Mike Varley and I think this may be the first time I’ve seen anything related to Bakersfield referenced from outside Bakersfield, that’s not pokin’ fun of us. I feel like I just tripped over a buried treasure chest. I’m actually in Bakersfield, so I can’t get you on the FM, but you can bet I’ll be streaming.
