All hat and no cattle

Seems a few days ago, one of the big country, er, Nashville, stars, Blake Shelton, went on a rant about why country music has changed into what it is today because “old farts” don’t buy new country music records anymore.  Well, no duh.  Not that we on “Bakersfield & Beyond” are considered old farts, but the reason why us fans of the old, original country music don’t buy albums by these new country music artists is simply because we don’t much care for it’s sugary pop influence.  All hat and no cattle, we say.  If you want to make a country record that appeals to us, go back and listen to the simply arranged tracks of Wynn Stewart, Ray Price, Merle Haggard, or even later music by Gram Parsons and The Byrds.  Listen to Clarence White.  Listen to Dwight Yoakam.  Listen to Dave Alvin.  Listen to Red Meat.  Listen to Dave Gleason.  Listen to tracks with teeth.

We got into KWMR‘s Studio A tonight and wanted to play some good country music old and new.
