Honky Tonk Man – Dwight Yoakam

After last show’s tribute to Dwight Yoakam, we got the call that we were on for a phone interview with Dwight himself.  What great timing!  We had the interview scheduled.  Dwight has KWMR’s recording studio’s phone number and sure enough, after we had the recording gear set up, the phone rings and there’s Dwight.  It was really a treat talking with him.  It was also a real privilege to hear him talk exactly about the things we love about the Bakersfield Sound.  Obviously, Buck and Merle are huge aspects, but his draw to the West Coast country sound had a lot to do after hearing Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, The Eagles, Credence Clearwater Revival – basically the type of music that grew out of the Bakersfield Sound – Country Rock.

We have uploaded the interview section to the blog (interview links over on the right side), but here is a quick link that will let you listen any time.  We hope you enjoy the interview as much as we had conducting it.  And if you were able to listen to the interview live on the air, then you also got to listen to all these other songs on the playlist posted below.  Thanks all!

Also a big thanks to Leslie Rouffe of Songlines Music and Don McCleese, author of “Dwight Yoakam:  A Thousand Miles From Nowhere,” who were very helpful with coordinating the interview with Dwight.
