Bakersfield & Beyond pledge drive show

Last night, we were on during one of KWMR‘s two pledge drives we have each year.  As a community radio station, we rely heavily on individual donors.  Got to feed the machine to make ‘er go.  It’s always a fun time putting on Bakersfield & Beyond and it’s even more fun during pledge drive because the activity level and energy at the station is high.

This pledge drive show did not disappoint.  We were treated to a live in-studio performance by Audrey Auld and her guitar.  We also talked to Rosie Flores about the Janis Martin recording she produced which was recently put out in CD form.  Rosie recorded Janis singing some great songs only a few months before Janis passed away in 2007.  It took five years before the funds could be raised to produce the record “The Blanco Sessions” on the Cow Island Music label.  It’s a fantastic collection of rockin’ tunes and thanks to Cow Island Music was one of our pledge premiums during our show.  We also talked about Rosie’s upcoming CD, “Working Girls Guitar,” that will be out in October that features her excellent guitar playing on each track.

Another CD we had for a pledge premium was the brand spankin’ new Dwight Yoakam album, “3 Pears.”  We played heavily from Janis and Dwight during the pledge show and raised some pretty good money for the station.  Thanks folks who donated and listened.
