Thank you, Homer Joy

We were sad to learn that Homer Joy, songwriter and performer, passed away this week.  Homer is, perhaps, best known for penning the classic ‘Streets of Bakersfield’ in 1972.  It’s somewhat ironic that Homer wrote ‘Streets of Bakersfield’ while employed by Buck Owens and then in 1988, Dwight Yoakam and Buck Owens performed it together, which helped launch Buck’s comeback.  ‘Streets of Bakersfield’ greatly helped two outstanding artist’s careers.  There will be a celebration of Homer’s life on Thursday September 27 at Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace.  Very fitting.  R.I.P Homer Joy.

Dwight Yoakam’s new album, 3 Pears, was also released this week, so we made sure we spread a little Dwight over the airwaves.

We also played some tracks from some bands from the UK that have a very Bakersfield Sound to them.  One in particular, Sydney Devine, Scotland’s own Rhinestone Cowboy, expertly covered two tracks from Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam with a hint of the Scottish brogue.
