Happy birthday, Buck!

Buck Owens, b. August 12, 1929.  We had a great time spinning some classic covers of Buck Owens’ tunes.  Barbara Streisand singing “Cryin’ Time” with Ray Charles.  Jeff Haskell covering “Buckaroo” on his Moog synthesizer.  The Carolina Chocolate Drops covering “Ruby, Are You Mad At Your Man,” which was released just this year on their album “Leaving Eden.”  There are some amazing covers – and A LOT of covers.  We had to really edit the list down to get a 2 hour show.

Speaking of Jeff Haskell and the Moog, it appears that Buck Owens purchased the second production Moog.  Check it out:  “Buck Owens made the second purchase of the Moog, his longtime collaborator Jeff Haskell recording Switched On Buck, an album of Owens material recorded entirely on the Moog and released by Capitol Records in 1971. (Carlos purchased the first and Micky Dolenz of the Monkees purchased the third model).”  From the Wickipedia entry on the Moog.

And lest we not forget, Dwight Yoakam has a new album coming out.  We previewed “A Heart Like Mine” that will be coming out on his new album “3 Pears.”  It’s going to be a good one.

And in case that embedding link doesn’t work, go here for Dwight performing one of his new tracks on Leno.  http://bcove.me/mjmbvezd
