Donald Duck’n it on a Thursday

In preparation of the upcoming show at Rancho Nicasio featuring Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys and Red Meat, we had both Big Sandy and Smelley Kelley on the phone with us.  Smelley wasted no time he was lounging, listening to cassette tapes and half-dressed.  He wouldn’t elaborate, but threw the image of Donald Duck up.  Everyone knows Donald Duck wears a shirt.

Enough about Smelley’s home dress habits.  What we are looking forward to is catching the show at Rancho Nicasio this Sunday at 4:00 which features BBQ on the lawn.  We are already familiar with Red Meat’s music and only vaguely familiar with Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys’ music.  After a crash course – big fans here.  Super smooth.  Great vocals.  Really tight sound.

We also played some music from folks who will be performing at the Far West Fest on July 16 in Point Reyes Station at Love Field.  How cool.  A music festival on a baseball field!  Check the link for more information.

We also were sad to learn that Glen Campbell has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.  However, he’s not taking a back seat to the disease, but is instead hitting the road for a tour this fall.  In addition to his solo career, Glen Campbell also played guitar in Merle Haggard’s band The Strangers.

Alright, so on with some clips and the playlist.
