We commemorated a couple of historical happenings on tonight’s show. We played “Cold, Cold Heart” by Hank Williams Sr. as it reach #1 on Billboard’s chart this week in 1951. We also played Bob Dylan’s “Talkin’ John Birch Paranoid Blues” to recognize Bob’s firm commitment to his songs and his unwillingness to change his lyrics to appease the powers that be at CBS. Bob was slated to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show and sing his “Talkin’ John Birch Paranoid Blues.” Long story short, Bob was asked to change the lyrics to appease those folks behind the scenes in order to appear on the show. He declined and didn’t appear on the show. The brouhaha that came out after probably did more to help his career than if he had been on the show.
This isn’t “Run Conejo Run,” but it is one of the songs that will be on Dave Alvin’s upcoming album Eleven Eleven.
