Well, you get the idea.  We had a fun Christmas show pretty much in the “Beyond’ realm of things.  But there were a couple of moments of pure Bakersfield Sound.  Merle Haggards “If We Make It Through December,” and Los Straitjackets excellent version of “Jingle Bells,” which had a heavy dose of Don Rich’s guitar lick from “Buckaroo.”  Gotta keep it real.  All in all, we had a great time mixing it up and playing some fun Christmas tunes.  So, here’s the playlist and some youtube clips – provided I can find clips of the songs we played.

You could say we went a little beyond tonight.

There’s a lot of great covers of “Detroit City.”  We played Flatt & Scruggs tonight.  There’s great ones by John Doe & The Sadies and Johnny Cash.  Here’s one by Bobby Bare.

I just never get tired of The Beat Farmers’ version of Powderfinger.  And I can (and have) watched this clip of them performing it over and over.  Buddy Blue and Country Dick Montana – you guys are missed, but not forgotten.

There’s several versions of “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” on YouTube.  This was the only one I watched all the way through because it was pretty damn cool.

We played a song off the Chris Gaffney tribute CD, A Man Of Somebody’s Dreams, by the band Calexico.  I’d heard their version of Gaffney’s Frank’s Tavern several times and always thought I’d remember to play that.  Tonight was the night to remember.  The band has a good sound.  Check them out.
